PAUL SCOFIELD . . . a brief biography:
Paul Scofield was born in San
Francisco in 1953, and began studying and practicing art in high school. He continued his studies of art at Bay Area colleges,
as well as at schools in Boston, while he lived there for two years. Since 1975, he has been drawing portraits, accepting
commissions for paintings and murals, along with working in acrylics and oils on canvas.
After visiting
many regions of this country, he traveled to Brazil, Argentina, France, England, Italy, Spain, the Caribbean and Mexico. He
has been intrigued by how each country’s landscape and climate has influenced the development of its culture. Each culture
reveals itself as a different lens through which to see the human condition. After returning home, the places and situations
he experienced have generated fresh ideas and artworks–as well as having given him fresh perspectives on the place where
he lives.
Paul works mostly within two genres of painting. A style of his
own: which blends representational landscapes with a quiet surrealism, mixing figurative and intangible elements. And the
plein air landscapes and seascapes–which have been a passion of his for 25 years, and have been his main focus in the
last three years.
Currently, Mr. Scofield is working on an ongoing series of plein air canvasses
of the San Francisco Bay Area, and the Monterey region, celebrating the wealth of natural beauty in these locations. He also
continues with his series of surrealistic and dream-oriented paintings. He resides in San Francisco with his wife, Tereza, nephew,
Eric; and enjoys hiking, archery, bodysurfing, photographing birds and writing.
